As summer comes to an end and our cucumber and tomato crops slow down, we're also making some changes to the price of our veg bags. Since EVC started in 2013, the prices of our veg bags have remained more or less unchanged.
Over time, increases to wholesale prices, the cost of labour (we pay our staff London Living Wage and above) and increases to the cost of living, have meant that we have had less and less ‘spending power’ to fill your veg bags.
Our price increases are ranging from £1.50 on our smallest bag, to £2.50 on our extra-large bags. This will give us more spending power to fill up your veg bags – meaning you will see slightly larger portions of most items, plus more frequency of luxury items such as Mushrooms or Broccoli.
We’re also lowering the price of our Salad and Greens bag to £7.95, making it our cheapest bag - reducing the typical number of fresh green items in it to three – making it a great booster for your main veg bag, or a single item on its own for those who just want a few greens.
These changes will provide more security for the agroecological growers and farmers who fill your bags in the local region, as we continue to work together on a more sustainable, fresher and healthier alternative to mainstream farming systems.
It means we can continue to strengthen the organic and local food sector here in Enfield.
If this price change feels unaffordable for you, we have a Solidarity Scheme which offers a 30% discount to those who need it. Visit https://www.enfieldveg.co.uk/solidarity-bagsto check your eligibility and apply. Please do share details of this scheme with anybody you feel may benefit from it.
